Windows gamer switches to Linux experiment

(UPDATED) Warframe Online Generator

As a Windows gamer switching to Linux, here are my thoughts. Click “Read More” in the description to see more tweaks and links I left there.

Here are various tweaks and instructions I’ve collected for myself. Some don’t have their original sources, and have been customized to fit my own configuration or observations.

Fallout 4: To fix audio issues, add the following to Steam launch
WINEDLLOVERRIDES=”xaudio2_7=n,b” PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=90 %command% gamemoderun %command% PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 %command%

If there’s no music or voices, put the following into the Steam launch WINEDLLOVERRIDES=”xaudio2_7=n,b” %command%

Installing Vortex mod manager on

Updating Origin on

How to use Lutris for games on

Installing script extenders (SKSE, F4SE, FOSE, NVSE) on Linux (I don’t recall the original source, but I’ve tweaked the instructions for myself):
I installed mods with Vortex and renamed the F4SE.exe to fallout4.exe and the main exe to F4.exe to allow steam to launch it. Then created a f4se.ini in fallout4/data/f4se (the “f4se” folder may need to be manually created within the Data folder) with “[Loader] RuntimeName=F4.exe” inside it. Don’t forget capitals in the name specification. Follow the same steps for other Bethesda titles (e.g., skse, fose, nvse). When saving with Ubuntu’s text editor, make sure that “Line ending” at the bottom of the window is set for Windows, not Unix/Linux, and that the file type is set to All Files.

In the case of Skyrim Special Edition, the .ini file needs to be called skse.ini, not skse64.ini, and it needs to be in SkyrimSpecialEdition/Data/skse folder. Use the same “[Loader] RuntimeName=SkyrimSE_original.exe” without quotations, as you would with the other games.

Installing new versions of Proton (original source unknown):
-Download the new version of Proton.
-If Steam is open, quit it entirely.
-Open the archive with Archive Manager.
-Click Extract.
-Navigate to home/richie/.steam/root/compatibilitytools.d
-If the folder compatibilitytools.d is not present, create it.
-Extract the archive to compatibilitytools.d
-Launch Steam.
-The newly installed versions of Proton can now be selected in the game’s properties.
